Nick Names & More Nick Names
It has become a norm every Big Brother season that as soon as housemates settle in, dynamics also start to change starting with names, aliases and pronunciations.
This season, Uganda’s pint sized rep Esther has already earned herself the a.k.a ‘small pepper’, she surely borrows a leaf from former BBA housemate and fellow Ugandan Jannette who was fondly nick-named ‘small princess’ by her fellow BBA Stargamers.
Back to Esther, ‘small pepper’ indeed suits her given her raunchiness and outspoken personality, what you see is what you get, she’ll say whatever is on her mind any time any day.
Permithias’ Greek related name has also been causing havoc in the house with either housemates pronouncing it wrongly or the viewers/fans spelling it wrongly.
Malawi’s flamboyant Mr.265 has also grabbed the headlines and people have been wondering what his name means, it also took the trouble of Big Brother who asked him: “Why Mr.265?” He filled him in that 265 was the area dialing code for his country Malawi and thus being the person that he’s, Mr.265 suits him very well. It also has a lot to do with patriotism.
South Africa’s Nhlanhla’s name has also raised some eyebrows with people twisting it and pronouncing it to best of their knowledge. There’s nothing like letter “D” in this name but when Biggie calls him to the Diary room, you are tempted to think that he just called him “Ndanda”.
There are so many of them; Zambia’s Macky2, Zim’s Butterphly all these have left people wondering what they really mean and why housemates came up with such names.
Which name/nick-name do you fancy this season?
