The Chase: A Season of firsts!
As soon Africa was introduced to the 28 contenders for the Chase crown, it was evident that the continent would be in for a royal treat.
Pokello and Hakeem from Zimbabwe, LK4 and Denzel from Uganda, Selly and Elikem from Ghana, Bassey and Bolt from Sierra Leone, Beverly and Melvin from Nigeria, Sulu and Cleo from Zambia, Oneal and Motamma from Botswana, Maria and Dillish from Namibia, Natasha and Fatima from Malawi, Biguesas and Neyll from Angola, Koketso and Angelo from South Africa, Nando and Feza from Tanzania, Huddah and Annabel from Kenya, as well as Bimp and Betty from Ethiopia all beat out thousands of other hopefuls to earn a spot on The Chase.
With the theme of ‘Romance’ being an integral part of the show, the Chasemates delivered in stunning fashion – serving up sexy hook ups, love triangles, heartbreak, rejection, fights, as well as true love. Selly and Biguesas gave Africa the first kiss of the season and opened the door for the likes of Betty and Bolt, the Oneza’s, Polikem, Bengelo and HaCleo to flourish.
The Chase for love even earned Nando and Sulu a Strike each as they tried to gun for Selly’s affections, almost literally!
Time and again the Chasemates succeeded in re-writing Big Brother history. One of those history makers was Nigerian lingerie model Beverly, who managed to make a smooth sail into the Finale without ever having being Nominated for possible Eviction by her fellow Housemates.Meanwhile Elikem was the first Ghanaian in history to cruise through to the Big Brother Finale.
It’s not an easy challenge to undertake, being cooped up with a group of strangers for so long and every so often we saw mounting tensions among the Housemates especially after the Diamond and Ruby Housemates Merged Houses. Beverly had a bit off a tiff with Selly, while Pokello and Feza were never able to see eye to eye, Feza also did not gel with Cleo. Feza’s man, Oneal had his own beef with Elikem.
But the most epic clash off all in The Chase, came by the way of Nando and Elikem. This battle of the hot boys resulted in the Tanzanian being Disqualified and the Ghanaian getting his first Strike.
Time and again, Biggie kept on throwing curveballs at the Housemates, like those tricky Emeralds that had the Chasemates convinced that they were real Housemates residing in a secret House all along. And nobody will ever forget the Housemates sneaky little friend – Pebbles, the talking fish!
The Chase was to be all about hot hook-ups but Africa clearly had other the plans. Week after week we saw the couples in the House being parted; who could forget the night that Ruby lovebirds LK4 and Koketso were booted out on the same night. Cleo and Elikem both lost their loved ones to Evictions, while Bolt and Betty, as well as Oneal and Feza followed each other out of The Chase. For a while it looked like Bengelo had escaped the ‘curse of the couples’ but then Angelo was axed out on Day 84.
The South African’s exit made way for the Top 5 family, which consists of Beverly, Cleo, Dillish, Elikem and Melvin, to become even closer.
They were all formidable contenders but in the end it was Namibian beauty Dillish that came out tops and strolled off into the sunset with the USD 300 000 Grand Prize.
